Research Interests
Supramolecular assemblies are being intensely investigated as new materials in a variety of contexts. Nevertheless, since the assembly of molecules in such systems is directed through noncovalent interactions, these materials could not keep their morphologies in different conditions. Covalent capture of the dynamic structures is expected to circumvent these problems. Fixing these self-assemble phases with covalent bonds not only enhances their stability but also enables their practical application.
Our research is directed toward the covalent capture of various self-assemblies. The study starts with the design and synthesis of small molecules, which are utilized to construct unique supramolecular assemblies, and further captures these phases by covalent bonds to prepare stable nanomaterials, and finally investigates their application in drug delivery, biomimetics, biological imaging, recognition, catalysis, template synthesis, and so on. Our research combines principles in organic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, materials, biochemistry and synthetic biology. It is not only significant fundamental study but also important applied research. One of our final goals is to develop new materials applicable for the real life.
